It's amazing what you can do with an old laptop!

I've made (another) change. I originally had this website running on my desktop computer, but now it's running on an old laptop, an IBM A20 with 256 megs of ram, a 10-gig hard drive, and a 500mhz processor, I got on eBay. I originally had it running Mandriva 2007 and then Kubuntu 7.04, but now I've synched it with my desktop computer and I'm running OpenSUSE 10.3. The internet connection is DSL. I pulled it off the shelf where I keep it and opened it up to show the desktop. That picture is the old Mandriva; at some time I'll update the picture to show OpenSUSE. It actually runs Linux about as fast as it did Windoze ME (its original OS), and a whole lot more reliably. Those three green lights under it are on a cooling pad I bought through uBid for about 20 bucks.

I spent a couple of months pulling my hair out over two fairly major bugs in the modem, and one I found once I got the other two fixed: The first one that won't allow me to view my own website with my domain name, the second one screws up my DNS server IP's when using DHCP and last, one that actually prevents anyone else from seeing the website. You'd think with all the money Actiontec makes, they'd fix stuff like that! Guess if you're only a customer, you don't count for much. And even less if you don't use Windows.

If you're frustrated because there's no "Contact Me" link, don't panic. I just haven't figured out how to do that without giving my email address to every a-hole spammer on the planet. I'll get that up as soon as I have it worked out.

It seems I also have to protect my content against blog leeching/hijacking. Damn, this is getting complicated!
